Dearest Sharon and Danielle,
On behalf of The Smiling Mask Team, we want to thank you both, IMMENSELY, for your heart, spirit and energy by sharing your experiences that ARE much more common and normal than ever. May we all remain honest and caring by living our truths in the most loving way we know in this moment in time. Thank you for sharing your selves because you WILL undoubtedly reach people who need to hear the exact words you wrote. Here's to the hope and healing that surrounds Postpartum Depression!
With heartfelt gratitude and honour,
Elita Paterson, Carla O'Reilly & Tania Bird
p.s. The photos are marvelous in every way! From the beautiful parents who created such blazing blue eyes in Parker, to the home that has been decorated with such love and care.
(03.30.10 @ 03:02 PM)Thank you for capturing my beautiful sister in these photos (and of course, my handsome brother in law and cutest little nephew). They turned out amazing!! :)
(03.30.10 @ 03:02 PM)Thank you for capturing the beauty of Danielle, Bruce and Parker. It has not been an easy road for them....but you have captured all the love!!
(03.30.10 @ 07:39 PM)Danielle is a beautiful person, inside and out. Despite a struggle with Postpartum Depression, Danielle, Bruce and Parker have forged a loving and caring family that is also beautiful inside and out. Thank you for these eloquent pictures!
(03.30.10 @ 09:50 PM)Sharon's pictures have truly captured a loving family that have and will continue to survive. A tough start, but with the nurturing of loving family members, I only see a beautiful future together. It does not surprise me that Danielle wants to help others who are suffering - that is who she is - generous and caring.
(03.30.10 @ 10:30 PM)I know the family from a distance...through Donna, Dani's Mum. I have been praying all works out for them best for them all. I too have been down that road of depression and am so proud of the strength that Dani and Bruce are showing to get through this and the endless support that their family is given means soooo much. GOOD for you Dani for reaching out to others. You have know idea how much that will mean to someone down the road. Trent
(03.31.10 @ 11:19 AM)Beautiful pictures of a beautiful family. Thanks for sharing your difficult story and letting others know that they are not alone. May your strength, bravery and the love of your caring family help take care of you as you heal.
(03.31.10 @ 12:11 PM)Thank You for sharing! I have had postpartum with both my children. Motherhood is filled with endless hours of cuddles, giggles and love. My postpartum came more in the form of anxiety. I felt overwhelmed with feelings of worry, fear and unneccessary guilt. I am so appreciative that someone so candid has opened the door to a topic that is rarely talked about. Thank You Danielle!
(04.01.10 @ 06:24 PM)I too have been down the depression road and try to talk about it to people whenever the opportunity arises. I think its great that you are making more people aware, and the pics are fantastic, what blazing blue eyes.
From my experience depression can hit at any time for a few hours or days and I try to be ever aware of what triggers it and why also realizing that it is my problem and not caused by others.
THANK YOU so much Sharon for capturing our beautiful family - this was our first family shot since Parker's birth and I was so excited - it felt like a personal celebration - a celebration of hope and life!
I did not expect to experience PPD when Parker was born five months ago (as I don't think anyone does). The emotional and physical pain in my head and heart was unrelentless and often became unbearable. I was hospitalized three times with suicidal thoughts and plans to end my life. The constant sleep deprivation/insomnia, overwhelming anxiety, horrifying shame and embarrassment, and daily emotional meltdowns when I would curl up on the floor and wish to die were terrifying. My husband accurately described PPD as "TORTURE" one night after watching and listening to me describe the disjointed irrational black thoughts spinning circles in my head.
I am no longer ashamed or embarassed to tell my story. I only hope it will encourage other mothers experiencing signs of PPD to come forward for the help and support they need. You are NOT ALONE.
A BIG thank you to my mom, sister, Bruce's parents, great friend Shauna, and extended family for all of their help and support over the last 5 months and to my husband Bruce, who was always there at my side telling me that we will get through this - we did! I love you so much! And to my son Parker - your smile is the shining light during my days and nights so that I may never be alone in the dark again.
Hugs, Danielle
Thank you for sharing. As a PPD FTM as well - it's been a hard road. Thankfully, I have the love and support of my family and the bundle of mischieviousness, energy and joy that is my son.

Love the pictures! That window one is so creative!
(11.06.09 @ 12:46 PM)
Wow Sharon, great pictures! Thanks so much for a great day.
(10.15.09 @ 11:19 PM)Hey Sharon:
We all love them. My favs are of the family in front of the leg, and the thee siblings in the crooked tree with the geese! :)
Beautiful kids Ashley!!
(10.16.09 @ 06:41 PM)Well tonight I had the best time with my little neighbours. I have known their family for years and I shot their mom and dads wedding over 5 years ago already. Wow, time flies. Anyway, it was a fun but challenging shoot. Fun cause it was with adorable kids. Challenging because one of them was a boy and he was 2, lol. Now I am not saying anything bad against Nate. He is so adorable. He's just a boy that is 2. I have been through this 3 times with my own. They are so busy and really want nothing to do with sitting for cameras. He also is totally in love with his hat and it was a challenge to get any shot of him let alone without his precious hat. Then there is his beautiful sister Lainie, who looks just like her mom I might add. She is so comfortable in front of the camera and reminds me of a young Nicole Kidman. A total little doll. I love the serious shots of her but don't worry mom and dad, there's plenty of adorable smiley ones as well. I hope you guys enjoy them. Thanks for making the drive over. Even if it is only a few miles down the road, lol. PS:I posted my very favorite picture of the bunch first. I don't know where I will put it but I definitely want a big canvas for my office. How fantastic is she?!?
Oh the door one is just too cute! With the two of them, and the one on his own. You must have been sweating by the time you were done chasing him around! Shooting kid sessions is the best workout ever.
(09.23.09 @ 12:12 AM)Great pictures of my grandkids Sharon. Thanks.
(09.23.09 @ 07:27 AM)Amazing Sharon...thank-you so much!!! Ohhhh, Nater Tater!!!
(09.23.09 @ 07:47 AM)Wow! Some of those first few shots of Lainie sure don't look like the little grade 1 girl that I pick up every morning for school, she looks so grown up!
(09.23.09 @ 06:25 PM)Beautiful Pictures of Beautiful Children !!!!
(09.25.09 @ 08:36 AM)Wow, Lainie sure looks like she knows what shes doing. And the vintage look of the Photo of Nate smiling alone looks great. Also really liked the one of Nate through the truck window

These next few shots are in honor of Mike and Leslie's Anniversary. They are similar to some wedding day photos that they have.

I just love this shot. Michael can make Leslie laugh so easily. Isn't that what life is all about?!?
If you have been here for photos or just follow my blog you've probably seen our family cat "Boots" in some of the images. He's so nosey and always has to come and check things out. Sam is so sweet and I think animals are automatically drawn to her.
Lane is such a great kid. You can tell he's going to be just like his dad. Really tall and really easy going!
And I have saved the best for last. This shot was all Sam and Lane's doing. Their ideas totally and I think its great! Way to go guys!
Love all of them Sharon!! Had a great time spending our anniversary with you!!
(09.05.09 @ 08:52 AM)
These first shots were done on a small cowhide that they have. Love It!!
This next one he even gave us a smile. My Grama always used to say that meant they were dreaming of angels.

Okay these next shots are my favorites. Mom was a rodeo princess and so we decided to use her saddle that she won. I absolutely love these and baby curled up just perfectly!!

We also used Grama's rocking chair when she was little. Love it!
And finally we are ending with a shot of mom, dad and baby that is so sweet as well as a couple of Miss J. She's just over a year and quite a busy young lady already. It was hard to get her sitting still enough and looking at the camera long enough but I captured this one and think she looks adorable.

Awww!!! What a beautiful family!!!
(08.28.09 @ 09:46 AM)Wow so proud of my baby brother and his amazing wife!!!
(08.30.09 @ 11:54 AM)Hey what do you do to keep those babies sleeping while you take pictures...............too cute..........great job.
(09.01.09 @ 04:01 PM)
Lovin these first few snuggly pix of Jody and Glen.

How adorable is mom's little one. I think I might have just fed her a gummy. That made her smile.
The girls liked Peek a Boo through the old truck window.
Now on to some shots of just the girls. There are a few that are repeats with just a different technique applied to them but loved them all so I am posting them all.
Adorable!

SOOC!
Technique #2

For the last one, thought I'd end with the silouette. Love it.Enjoy!!
I'm starting with a shot I love of everyone in front of Grampa's homestead. It sure was a great old house and the kids told stories about Grampa shingling the roof when they were little and scaring them to death when he fell off.
The kids are slowly starting to warm up. I love this shot with the flowers. Getting kids involved in an activity always helps get a great shot.
And just for fun, a little peak-a-boo through the flowers.
The shy "Miss L" suddenly not so shy and totally fine with a photo just of her. She even struck a little pose. How adorable is she?!?
Anyone that knows me knows I love an old house and this one was no different. Look at the great blue colors and the fantastic wallpaper. I just love the vintage feel of this photo and the next few coming up.
Brothers. Love, love, love this serious shot of the boys! They were so sweet I could have easily taken them home.
Miss M is such a great kid and always had a smile on her face. I had to force her to not smile in this shot but I love it!
Okay, I know I keep using the word love tonight but I totally love this group shot. The light is just so pretty.
And here's the lady that organized this whole thing and her boys. Its too bad that dad had to work but now he will have a great shot of his family for his desk. Carla was super nice. I liked her right off the bat and know if she was living out here we'd definitely be grabbing a coffee now and then. Thanks for getting everything together Carla. :)
Cousins!
Snuggling with Grampa.
I just had to throw this shot in. Sometimes in order to get the shot you want, you have to let the kids have a little fun. Isn't that what its all about anyway? We even got Grampa involved in this one. Too funny.
I don't even think anyone knows about this last shot. It was actually one of the first shots I took when everyone was surveying the yard with Grampa in the lead. It just seems so natural. Thanks again everyone for the great time.Ok, you had me crying from picture one. I've been wanting to do this for a long time and today was awesome and these pictures are fantastic!! You've brought to life exactly what I wanted. And yes, coffee would definitely be on, from one sentimental gal to another!
(08.13.09 @ 02:57 AM)Wow! Great photos! The grandkids are all so beautiful. And the "kids" aren't too bad either :) Your Dad looks great! What a wonderful collection of photos to cherish.
(08.13.09 @ 01:48 PM)This evening the Sefton's made the complicated trek out to my place as my road is now under construction. Wow, its going to be a long summer till that is done. I have taken photos of the kids before but never the whole family. The weather wasn't the best but at least it was dry and they were all so great to work with. Mom and dad looked great and the kids were so adorable. I have learned that working with children should not be this rigid event. It should be fun. It should be play time. That's when you get the great results like tonight. Thanks for all your efforts everyone. Enjoy this small selection of images.
One last comment about this last image at the end of the blog post. I am sorry Erin but its just not fair that you look so amazing when you are chasing after two small kids. Gorgeous :)
Great pictures, They are just fabulous.
Sharon the pictures are fantastic...you continue to out do yourself!

(07.14.09 @ 07:26 PM)Sharon all I can say is wow! That and I would love for you to add one more member of the Sefton family to your list one of these days soon!
(07.15.09 @ 08:54 AM)
Okay, I know I am probably a bit impartial but isn't he just the most adorable little boy? I mean come on. I just love these two images of Kobe and his mommy.
Absolutely he's gorgeous :) I love the first shot of him - fantastic!
